Update
Unfortunately, we have not received any donations yet. This is partially my fault as I have been busy and not keeping up with promotion and information. However, I have changed the way that donations will be received. Everything is going through the ChipIn website. I have set a deadline for December 31... this is so that any money we raise will be a New Year's gift to Orangutan Outreach. ChipIn still uses PayPal, but it makes it easier to keep track of the donations. Our goal is $120, but I set up the ChipIn to not have a goal as we will take any amount and work with it.

If you are unfamiliar with the plight of the Orangutans, please read the following article: www.huffingtonpost.com/deborah…
"The third largest forest nation with 120 million hectares, Indonesia is subsequently the world's third largest carbon polluter and loses more than 1 million hectares per year due to illegal logging, illicit land clearing and forest fires. About 90 percent of orangutans live in Indonesia, between Sumatra and Borneo islands, while the remaining 10 percent can be found in Sabah and Sarawak, Malaysia. Both species of orangutans have been place on the red list of The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) with The Sumatran species listed as critically endangered. According to the Ministry of Forestry's own findings, an estimated 100,000 wild orangutans have fallen innocent victim to the chainsaw powered by corporate greed or have been sold into captivity since 1970. "
I've felt moved by the issue and I decided that it would be great if our group, EndangeredART, adopted an Orangutan from Orangutan Outreach. Orangutan adoption is only $10 a month or $120 a year. If everyone in our group chipped in $1, we would have enough money to cover over two years.
How will this work?
Basically, you send me a donation via PayPal to the email address ea.orangutans@gmail.com (make sure you include your dA name in the message box so I can add your screen name to the list of donors). When we reach $120, I will send in the yearly donation to OO. If we go over $120, the extra money will be left to use for either another endangered species program, or one time donation to Orangutan Outreach (I will hold a poll on my personal dA page to let everyone choose where the money should go). I will run this donation drive every year. When I make the donations, I will take a screen shot and upload it here for proof and when I receive email updates about the orangutan we adopt, I will update the blog with the email.
To see the Orangutans up for adoption and to read their stories, go here. After $120 is raised, I will create a poll on my page to allow everyone to vote on which orangutan the group will adopt.
If you need more information how this will work, feel free to ask me. I think adopting an orangutan and doing a donation drive will be great for our group. Also, if you feel like making your own donations to Orangutan Outreach or another program, that is amazing. Feel free to tell us about it!
Can't donate? Pimp the donation drive in your journal and share information about orangutans. Uploaded images of orangutans? Put the donation drive in the artist's comments! All help is greatly appreciated! Please use this stamp to promote the donation drive. Thank you!
I will keep everyone updated on the goal!

Important Group Changes
Why are we Changing?
Recently we have been running into a lot of problems with some deviants; we have deviants joining the group who have not read the rules properly (or at all), this causes a lot of work for the admins who then have to explain to the deviant why we cannot accept their deviations. In some cases it's just a matter of the deviant not knowing that the species featured in their work is not threatened, in which case we don't mind checking the species status for you and letting you know what they are classified as.
The biggest problem we have had by far though is aggressive, rude and frankly downright insulting comments from peop

It is my sad duty to report that a White Tip Shark (spp. currently unknown) has died during the shooting of a Kmart commercial in Los Angeles, USA. It is not specified in reports whether the shark was an Oceanic (vulnerable status) or Reef (near threatened) White Tip however reports do state that it was flown in from New York to California for the purposes of shooting the supermarket's commercial.

Rules Reminder + Vulture Contest Voting
:star:Rules Reminder:star:
We've had a lot of new and old members ignoring the group rules lately; this is a big issue for us admins as it takes up a huge amount of time to repond to every submission which breaks the rules. We don't like to simply decline and ignore submissions which ignore the rules, as we don't want people left wondering why their submissions were declined.
But at the same it's a big problem when members repeatedly ignore the rules or contest us when we explain why their submissions were declined. When you ask to join our group you are agreeing to follow our group's rules.
